In a rare solo appearance, Tegan Quin of Tegan and Sara performed alongside author Augusten Burroughs (Running With Scissors, A Wolf at the Table) at SPIN’s Liner Notes at the Housing Works Bookstore Café.
The event further featured an acoustic performance by Colin Frangicetto (Circa Survive) and readings by Elizabeth Seward (Spelling & Grammar) and Stephen Christian (Anberlin), who recently published his first novel, The Orphaned Anythings.
While exploring the shared experiences of authors and musicians, the intimate event raised more than $8,000 for the services provided by Housing Works Inc. to homeless and low-income individuals living with HIV/AIDS. The Housing Works Bookstore Cafe hosts many amazing events throughout the year.

PHOTOGRAPHER’S NOTES
Wow, what a night. Before the event, I didn’t consider myself a fan of any of the evening’s illustrious lineup. (I’m talking plain old ignorance here.) Afterward, I had the distinct need to read more memoir and listen to a few more bands.
As far as the photography was concerned, I shot the entire thing save the lead and end shots with ambient light using Canon’s mid-range and tele zoom “L” lenses. The light was ample and the audio system packed enough punch to drown out my numerous shutter clicks. I often restrain trigger finger when shooting at intimate shows, but the mood was lively enough that it didn’t seem to be a problem.
Check out a video of the event over at SPIN.com.

[...] admit that Tegan and Sara have definitely grown on me. Though I’d caught up with Tegan at a rare solo appearance weeks before, this was the first time I’d seen the twins in action [...]
