My awesome clients friends at Memphis The Musical won big at the 2010 Tonys last night taking home awards for four of their eight nominations including the prizes for Best Musical and Best Original Score. Check out the full list of Tony Award winners on the official site and go see Memphis!!!

Since they opened last year, I’ve done a bunch of work for the musical including photography of the finished Memphis production and the recording of the Memphis cast album. Here are a few of my favorite shots!

As always, great stuff! Question for you…do you prefer to shoot at a high ISO and clean up in post or shoot wide open and risk getting blurry pictures? I find myself having to overshoot in low light situations because I shoot wide open and slow shutter speeds, often getting blurry pictures. I’ve always been afraid of pumping up the ISO too high and adding too much noise to the pictures…but I’m starting to think that may not be the best way to go about it. What is your ideal shooting configuration?

    • Hi Eddie,

I think people worry about noise too much. No one who has ever looked at my photos on the web or in print has ever said they didn’t like the image because it was “too noisy.” I shoot at whatever ISO, shutter and aperture settings are necessary to create the kind of image I’m after. Sometimes this means low ISO and very low shutter speeds and sometimes the shot demands very high ISO and high shutter speeds.

Since Memphis has a lot of energetic dancing, I shot this at very high iso and high shutter speeds to freeze the action.

Let me know if you have any other questions.
