The Gaslight Anthem

When frontman Brian Fallon told the crowd that the band had “slept in a lot of dirty places to get to the show” last night, the crowd erupted in applause. Though the guys hadn’t necessarily had access to a working shower recently, the fans didn’t seem to mind; New Yorkers trekked to the far west [...]
The Sounds

April 30, 2009 – The Sounds played a “secret show” to celebrate the release of their new album Crossing the Rubicon. Santos Party House was packed to the gills. Rumor has it that even Semi Precious Weapons frontman Justin Tranter attended the invite-only event.
Paramore

June 11, 2009 – Building upon The Sounds‘ energetic set, Paramore opened in support of No Doubt at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden, New Jersey. If you’ve into female-fronted rock music, this tour is not-to-be-missed!
No Doubt – Camden, NJ

June 11, 2009 – Exactly how loud is the sound of 25,000 people screaming the words “I’m just a Girl” into the bowels of the Susquehanna Bank Center? The world may never know because whatever machine they were using to measure it went to 11 and then broke. Speaking from experience, I’d rank it somewhere [...]
Yes. More Photos of No Doubt

May 3, 2009 – What can I say, I have too many great photos from No Doubt’s amazing performance at Bamboozle to keep them from you. Any concert where your b-side images are as good as your headlining photos from other shows is a good one. Enjoy.
No Doubt at Bamboozle 2009

May 3, 2009 – Before embarking on one of the most highly anticipated tours of the year, No Doubt gave their first major show since their 2004 hiatus to the thousands of fans attending The Bamboozle Music Festival, 2009.
Semi Precious Weapons

March 27, 2009 – Watching Justin Tranter on stage is like witnessing the miracle of birth (only it’s about 1000 x better since babies don’t burst onto the scene in diamonds, couture or four-inch spike heels). Ladies and gentlemen, glam boys and hard rock girls, I give you Justin Tranter, Cole Whittle, Dan Crean, and [...]
Road Recovery Benefit 2009

May 1, 2009 – For the second year in a row, the Road Recovery Benefit Concert brought together an amazing lineup of rock talent to help young people fight addiction and adversity. This year, the organization honored the legendary Wayne Kramer of MC5 and announced plans to help Kramer bring a Road Recovery program to [...]
Preview: No Doubt – Bamboozle, Day 2

May 3, 2009 – If all of the preview posts in my stream aren’t a dead giveaway, I’m currently sitting on a mountain of images that desperately need to see the light of day. Here’s one from No Doubt’s phenomenal headlining set at the end of The Bamboozle Music Festival, 2009.
The Birthday Massacre

April 27, 2009 – The band needed no long winded introduction and no warm up – moving straight into pounding synth lines and blistering guitar riffs just seconds after taking the stage, The Birthday Massacre began how most bands finish (and went to eleven from there). The show included bow displacing power noogies, hysterical screaming, [...]
Preview: Road Recovery Benefit Concert, 2009

May 1, 2009 – Rock stars came out in droves for the annual Road Recovery Benefit Concert at Nokia Theater in Times Square. This year, the nationally recognized music mentoring organization honored the legendary Wayne Kramer of MC5. The star studded line-up included Perry Farrell (Jane’s Addiction), Tom Morello (Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave), Iggy [...]
REM Tribute event at City Winery

03.11.09 – After shooting the R.E.M. Tribute benefit at Carnegie Hall, I showered, shaved and ran down to City Winery to join the artists and fans at the event reception. The party featured food designed by Chef Mario Batali, intimate encore performances by many of the musicians and lots and lots of good wine.
Bell X1

03.19.09 – Clover leaves and green were abundant in the Highline Ballroom crowd for one of Ireland’s best bands, Bell X1. Standing on their huge following in Europe, the indie rock trio is gaining popularity in the US with beautiful performances of their 2009 release Blue Lights on the Runway.
Septic Flesh

2.27.09 – The Greek metal band Septic Flesh performed a short but pounding set in support of their fellow black metal tourmates Satyricon and Cradle of Filth.
The Music of R.E.M. at Carnegie Hall

03.11.09 – When Calexico is listed as the Carnegie Hall “house band” for a concert featuring over twenty different artists, chances are it’s going to be an incredible night. In addition to performing their rendition of “Wendell Gee,” Calexico supported acts including The Feelies, Ingrid Michaelson, Glen Hansard, Kimya Dawson, Bob Mould and Patti Smith [...]
Cradle of Filth

2.27.09 – Unleashing wave after wave of piercing shrieks and wailing guitars, the UK’s Cradle of Filth took the Nokia Theater by extreme metal storm. The house was packed with black by the time Dani Filth lead his corpsefaced crew through a crushing set that spanned Cradle’s massive eight album catalog.
Tom Jones

02.24.09 – The Terminal 5 marquee read “move over Justin, Tom Jones is bringing sexy back to NYC.” Of course, it didn’t actually say that, but given the screaming horde of panty-tossing women, it might as well have.
Dressed in a black tuxedo jacket with his trademark combination of chest chair and gold jewelry, Jones’ soulful [...]
The Whigs

01.29.09 – Put simply, The Whigs rock out. Put this Athens trio in front of 15 people or 15,000 and the outcome is the same – a freewheeling indie rock show that leaves the audience wondering if they missed the opening act. To be clear, The Whigs were performing in support of fellow southern rockers [...]
Kings of Leon

01.29.09 – If the top ten album and three Grammy nominations aren’t proof enough that Kings of Leon have hit the big time, just ask one of the thousands of screaming fans at their sold-out show in Madison Square Garden. Performing in support of their Only By The Night release, the Followills brought a huge [...]
Tip The Van

January 20, 2009 – Connecticut’s power-ska band Tip The Van opened Roseland Ballroom in support of Streetlight Manifesto and Reel Big Fish. The fem-fronted sextet is touring on their new EP Passion, Love and Pride.
Streetlight Manifesto

January 20, 2009 – Supporting Reel Big Fish on their new tour, Streetlight Manifesto took the two slot on the evening’s triple threat skastravaganza. Tomas Kalnoky and band kept the energy high with a profusion of sound from the horn section and plenty of dirty guitar riffs.
Reel Big Fish

January 20, 2009 – As the security staff on the barrier of Tuesday’s Reel Big Fish concert will tell you, the Third Wave is alive and well. Performing in support of their new release Fame, Fortune and Fornication, the band whipped crowd into a sweat drenched, crowd surfing frenzy.
